Each week you can see the activities that our students were engaged in as well as many of the resources I used in my teaching. I put out these weekly posts for parents to see what their child is learning in PE as well as for other PE teachers to get ideas they can implement in their own program.
This was the week students have been looking forward to...GAME DAY! It's not often that we get to play regulation games at the elementary level, but floor hockey is one of those units where we actually DO get to play some small-sided games and the kids absolutely love it. All grade levels K-5 participated in 2 days of games. Each game lasts 5 minutes and at the end of the game, I shuffle up the teams with a group maker app and students get a new group of players to play with for the next 5 minutes.
Here's a look at what typical gameplay looks like with three games going on in half a gym.
The group maker app I use is called Classroom Teammates and can be found in the iOS app store or by clicking the icon. It is the one I like the best of all the ones I've used. I use it a lot in my teaching and it really helps students learn to play well with other students of varied abilities. The video below shows just how quickly students transition from ending one game and starting another. |
