Every teacher has their own unique classroom procedures and expectations for student behavior and down in the gym it's no different.  We spend a great deal of time reinforcing the routines on a regular basis so that our class can run as efficiently and effectively as possible.  Each day I track observable behaviors in the gym.  Students start each class with 3 behavior points which they try to keep by demonstrating expected behaviors like following directions & safety rules, staying on task, cooperating with others, etc...  If a student displays behavior that hinders the safety or disrupts the learning of others, they can lose points.

Gym Shoes

Picture
Parents, please help your student be prepared and safe during physical education by providing athletic shoes that can be securely fastened.  Keeping a pair at school is best.  If this is not possible, please have them bring or wear a pair to school on PE days.  This will allow them to fully participate in all activities safely.

Drinks & Bathroom Use

Bathrooms and drinking fountains are located just across the hallway from the gym.  Students are allowed to leave the gym any time the music is on.  Students should turn on the light switch when they leave.  This will let me and others know that there are currently 1 or 2 students out of the gym.  If both lights are on, students should wait for someone to return. When a student returns from the bathroom or from getting a drink, they should turn the light off.
