Welcome to Williamsburg Elementary Physical Education! My name is Mr. Graham and each week you can see the activities that our students were engaged in as well as many of the resources I used in my teaching. I put out these weekly posts for parents to see what their child is learning in PE as well as for other PE teachers to get ideas they can implement in their own programs.
Overview of the Week
Due to the short 3-day school week because of parent/teacher conferences on Thursday and Friday, students got to participate in a variety of "free choice" stations for the first time this year. This is where I put out a bunch of different equipment and students get to choose what they want to do and how long they want to do it. Our rules are, 1. Be Safe (use equipment & space safely), 2. Be Active (whatever you choose, stay busy), and 3. HAVE FUN! (no explanation necessary) I've had kids asking me since the first day of school, "When are we gonna do free choice?" It's undoubtedly one of their favorite things to do in PE.
Our Healthy Habits at Home Contest this week focused on FITNESS! Students are challenged to hold 5 different stretches and balances for 15 seconds each. We just finished some balance activities last week, so incorporating it again into this week's challenge is a perfect way to help reinforce these skills at home. Next week, I'll have pictures of all the classes that won September's contest from each grade level.
