Welcome to Williamsburg Elementary Physical Education! My name is Mr. Graham and each week you can see the activities that our students were engaged in as well as many of the resources I used in my teaching. I put out these weekly posts for parents to see what their child is learning in PE as well as for other PE teachers to get ideas they can implement in their own programs.
Overview of the Week
This week our K-2 students began a unit on locomotor movements. We defined what locomotor skills are, learned that there are eight of them, and played some games that incorporated locomotor movement skills. Parents, ask your student how many of the 8 skills they know? Walk, run/jog, skip, gallop, slide/shuffle, jump, hop, and leap. Our 3rd-5th graders are learning to measure their activity levels during class with both a cardio game (Risky Business) and a fitness game (UNO Fitness). Students wore their pedometers that tracked total steps, total activity time, and total time spent in Moderate to Vigorous Physical Activity (MVPA time).
September's Healthy Habits Activity Contest begins this weekend, so be on the lookout for their activity calendar coming home in backpacks on Thursday! Each month students will be challenged to a grade level contest to complete as many activities as they can on their calendar. Each week has a different focus (fitness, family, food, & fun) and the class with the most activities completed wins the traveling trophy to display in their classroom! Good luck to all our classes!!!
