Welcome to Williamsburg Elementary Physical Education!  My name is Mr. Graham and each week you can see the activities that our students were engaged in as well as many of the resources I used in my teaching.  I put out these weekly posts for parents to see what their child is learning in PE as well as for other PE teachers to get ideas they can implement in their own programs.

Overview of the Week

Our skating unit kicked of in P.E. this week!  Students were instructed on safety rules, how to get on/off equipment, how to get up from the floor, and stopping under control.  It was great to have so many parents and grandparents volunteer to help get skates and safety gear on the students. I truly couldn't do this without their help! We purchased some new interlocking foam mat flooring to set up as a "slower" area where kids could stand up and balance easier.  We also offered students the option of using a skating glider to help our newer skaters be successful.  All in all, it was a great week on wheels!

We also wrapped up November's Healthy Habits at Home contest, so be sure to bring your completed sheets back to school by Tuesday, December 5th as we will be annoucing the winning classes on December 6th!

One more exciting announcement...Williamsburg students helped set a NEW Guinness World Record a couple weeks ago during our Sport Stacking unit!  We joined with schools from all over the world to get 746,698 kids to set the record for "Most People Sport Stacking at Multiple Locations" breaking the previous record of 737,863. Way to go Williamsburg!  Read more and print out a personalized certificate here.

This week, student participated in Sport Stacking activities using Speed Stack cups to create various stacks and formations.  As a school, we participated in STACK UP 2023 where we attempted to set a Guinness World Record for "the most people sport stacking at multiple locations" over a 3-day period.  It was a great full week leading up to our Thanksgiving break all next week.
We begin roller skating when we return, so students, bring a helmet from home if you have one, and parents, you can sign up to volunteer for skating helpers HERE!

What a crazy week! Music program set up in the gym for rehearsals Tuesday & Wednesday, Grandparents' Day on Thursday, a half day on Friday along with a 1st grade field trip! Needless to say, there were many classes that only had PE once or not at all this week. We made due with a modified space and a couple simple dice games. Next week we will be cup stacking with Speed Stacks as Williamsburg participates at a shot to set a Guiness World Record for the most people participating in stacking at multiple locations at the same time!

Our first full week of November focused on Fitness with our Healthy Habits at Home contest.  Be sure you get these four exercises in this week!

Overview of the Week

Halloween week is always a crazy one, so we extended our bowling unit to give students extra practice rolling at a target with a couple skill application activities.  We started each class with some fun holiday-themed warmup activities and then jumped right in to the main lesson.  We also finished up our Healthy Habits at Home Contest for the month of October!  Our grade level winners for the month were: K - Mrs. Murphy, 1st - Mrs. Cox, 2nd - Mrs. Dallke, 3rd - Ms. Crawford, 4th - Mrs. McDuffee, & 5th - Mr. Smith.  Congratulations!  I will have pictures to share next week.

Also, if you would like to volunteer for our upcoming roller skating unit beginning after Thanksgiving, you can sign up HERE!  We need lots of help getting skates and safety gear on and off students.

Overview of the Week

Week 2 of our bowling unit concluded with some regulation, full-lane bowling using iPad scoring with our older students (grades 2-5).  Our younger students focused on taking turns and rolling for accuracy at a single pin from different distances with Caterpillar Bowling.  They also played "Add-A-Pin" where students tried to knock down all the pins (starting with 1) and when successful, they added another pin until they got to 10!

Our final full week of October in our Heatlhy Habits at Home contest is upon us, so be sure to return your sheets to school as soon as you finish 3 challenges that you chose to do for FUN this week!  Deadline to return to school is Thursday, Nov. 2.  Winners of October's contest will be announce on Friday, Nov. 3rd.
